Burger, Chester

Born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1921, Chester Burger began his career with CBS radio in 1941 and became the first television reporter, with CBS television news (1946-1948), advancing to news editor (1950-1952), and national manager (1953).

From 1955 to 1988 he worked in the public relations field and as a consultant for various corporations such as American Telephone and Telegraph Company where he played a part in establishing policy toward corporate divestiture. He has been a consultant for many professional and non-profit organizations and federal agencies, including the United States Information Agency. He has authored several books and lectured extensively on the role of public relations in management.
