Alfred L. Higginbotham taught for more than 40 years in the Journalism Department; in 1965 the Department of Journalism was named in his honor. He assisted in founding the Nevada State Press Association in 1924; established the Nevada Newspaper Hall of Fame in 1948; was advisor to the University chapters of Kappa Tau Alpha and Sigma Delta Chi; was active in professional college and university associations; served as a member of numerous university committees and boards; and as a public relations advocate for the university.
