New York State Geological and Natural History Survey.

The Geological and Natural History Survey of the state was authorized in 1836 and completed in 1842 under the supervision of four state geologists. After the completion of the Survey, James Hall and Ebenezer Emmons were appointed to continue the work of the geological and agricultural surveys, respectively.
