Journalist Henry L. Stoddard was born in New York City, and educated at CCNY. He worked as a journalist in New York, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C., before becoming editor and part owner of the New York Evening Mail. He also wrote several monographs about political figures, and a biography of Horace Greeley.
