Eleanor Clymer wrote more than 50 children's books in fiction and nonfiction. She is most noted for her sensitive depiction of family situations and social problems, but also wrote children's science books and a series of books about a fat, striped cat named Horatio. Awards include the Woodward School Zyra Lourie book award, the Juvenile Literature Award of the Border Regional Library Assn. of Texas, the Children's Book Award of the Child Study Assn. of America, and the Sequoyah Book Award of the Oklahoma Library Assn.

Eleanor Clymer was born in New York City in 1906 and graduated from the University of Wisconsin, married and had one child. She worked as a teacher and at other professions before she started writing children's books in 1943. She was the author of over fifty children's books, both fiction and non-fiction. She wrote books about both city and country life and explored themes that ranged from friendship to family relations to cooperation. Clymer died in 1984.
