Saint Anne's Church was first built in 1741 at Fort Michilimackinac on the northern tip of the lower penisula. When this fort was moved to Mackinac Island in 1750, the church went with it, being hauled over the ice on sleds. In 1874, the original chapel was razed and another one built to accomodate the increasing population. One of the priests in charge of this new structure kept the volume that comprises this collection.
