Protestant Episcopal clergyman and resident of Bloomingdale, New York City and Boston, Massachusetts.

Episcopal clergyman. First historiographer of the Episcopal Church; resident of Middletown, Conn.; graduate of Yale College in 1805; from 1811-1826 served at various posts in New York and Boston; then travelled in Europe for nine years, visiting its most important libraries. In 1835 returned to the U.S., and was professor of oriental literature at Washington (now Trinity) College, Middletown, Conn.; from 1837-1842 was rector at Christ Church, Middletown. In 1838 was named as historiographer of the Episcopal Church with a directive to prepare an ecclesiastical history of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the U.S. Only one volume, The Church of the Redeemed, was published in 1850.
