Bill Douglas, a Christian pacifist, served as midwest organizer for the Socialist Party, was an Iowa Socialist Party candidate for state and congressional office, campaigner for labor rights and social justice, and an anti-war activist. Douglas was part of a small group that rebuilt the Iowa Socialist Party in the late 1970s, and as the SPUSA's midwestern organizer he made the Iowa Socialist Party a strong force within the national Socialist Party. Douglas was deeply involved in movements against nuclear weapons and Reagan administration policy in Central America. He frequently took part in anti-war protests and strike support actions, and was arrested several times and sent to jail for his acts of conscience.
From the description of Douglas, William R. papers, 1976-1991. (Iowa Sate Historical Society). WorldCat record id: 48137023
