Leopold Godowsky, American pianist and composer of Polish birth, was born in Soshly, near Vilnius, Feb. 13 1870 and died in New York, Nov, 21, 1938. He was one of the great piano virtuosos at the turn of the century, who wrote works of such technical difficulty that they have been mastered by few pianists. He was also a great teacher and a prolific composer.
