Findlay, Heather

Hide Profile

Graduate of Brown University, 1986. While a senior, PLAYBOY came to campus for a "Women of the Ivy League" issue. This generated a great deal of campus activism and criticism of pornography and prostitution. Findlay responded by seeking to create and publish pornography meaningful to her and created by women. She and Miven Booth published a single issue of POSITIONS. For it, they put a model call in the school papers the BROWN DAILY HERALD next to PLAYBOY's advertisement. A story about this appeared on the front page of the New York DAILY NEWS. Findlay earned a PhD in English at Cornell University in 1993, worked on the staff of ON OUR BACKS, and then started her own lesbian periodical, GIRLFRIENDS.
