This commercial exchange established in 1872 was first known as the Charleston Exchange, and later (around 1890) the Charleston Cotton Exchange. From 1872 the Exchange was located in a brick building at the corner of Prioleau and Exchange streets. This building was closed in the late 1920's and razed in 1956. Beginning in 1928, the Charleston City Directory locates the Charleston Cotton Exchange on East Bay Street.
