Progressive journalist Josiah William Gitt (1884-1973) published the nationally known progressive newspaper The Gazette and Daily (York, Pa.), from 1918 until his death in 1973. He stood on principle against Red-baiting, endorsing the Progressive Party candidate Henry Wallace in 1948.
