The Rev. Jesse Swank was born in Quincy, Ohio, July 12, 1867. In 1890 he was ordained in the Central Ohio Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church. His pastorates included the following: Gettysburg, Zanesville, West Liberty, Napoleon, Bellfontaine, Van Wert, Springfield, and Marion, Ohio where he officated at the funerals of both President and Mrs. Warren G. Harding. The Ohio Conference sent him as a delegate to three General Conferences and to the Uniting Conference of 1939.

Paul Fletcher Swank was born in 1892 in Zanesville, Ohio. He attended Ohio Wesleyan University for three years. He began his career as a reporter on the Van Wert Times. In 1917 he went to the Marion Star then under active management of then Senator Warren G. Harding. As telegraph editor of the Marion Tribune in 1919 he covered the Harding "front porch" campaign for presidency.

In 1921 he joined the Columbus staff of the Associated Press. He was transferred to Cincinnati, then Cleveland, and returned to Columbus in 1940. During his career he was also active as a layperson in the Methodist Church.
