Boylston Hall was designed by the firm of Schultze and Schoen and was built in 1857 at a cost of $50,000. The building originally housed the physical sciences department, and included an anatomical museum and a chemistry laboratory. Boylston Hall was remodeled in 1929 to house the Yenching Institute and, after the Institute relocated, in 1959 and then again in 1998, major renovation work was done on the Hall to create more office and program space.
