Richard Stanley joined NYU in 1979 and for 21 years served in various capacities within the university Provosts office, including coordination and oversight of the university's academic budget, its facility and space planning, the faculty planning efforts, and the University's information technology and libraries. In 2000 he became Vice Provost and in 2002, Stanley became Executive Vice Provost. In this position, Stanley was responsible for areas related to academic resource allocation among schools of the University and oversight of academic support units. He served as the lead academic member of the University planning committee, played the chief role in planning academic facility projects, and provided key coordination between the Office of the Provost, Office of the Executive Vice President, and the Office of the Senior Vice President for Health. Stanley left NYU in 2004 to become Senior Vice President and University Planner at Arizona State University.
