Jim Chalgren was a gay Minnesota civil rights activist. Chalgren founded the GLBT Office at Minnesota State University Mankato in 1977, one of the first centers of its kind on an American college campus.

James Chalgren founded the GLBT Office at Minnesota State University in Mankato in 1977, making it one of the first centers of its kind on a college or university campus. Chalgren was a graduate student in the Counseling and Student Personnel program at the time.

Chalgren was named Mr. Gay Minnesota in 1983.
