Sheli Lulkin was a high school teacher with the Chicago Public Schools as well as a labor and women's rights activist. Lulkin was active in the leadership of the Chicago Teacher's Union until 1976 when she was asked to step down amid accusations that she was an informant for the Chicago Police Department's "Red Squad." Lulkin was also a member of the Coalition of Labor Union Women, the Illinois Women's Political Caucus, the Illinois Commission on the Status of Women, the Women's Action Alliance, and ERA Illinois.

Born in Israel. Union activist, Chicago Teacher's Union and the Coalition of Labor Union Women; Feminist activist. Born in Israel, Sheli Lulkin moved with her family to the United States when her father was accepted to Stanford University. Unable to attend due to the Alien and Sedition Act, her father decided to move to Chicago where other family members already lived. Lulkin grew up on the North Side of Chicago, attending Roosevelt High School and the Chicago Teachers' College. Lulkin became a special education teacher in the Chicago Public Schools and an active member of the Chicago Teachers Union, serving as an officer. Lulkin was also a founder and leader of the Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW) and served as editor of Chicago Education News. After attending Loyola University Chicago's graduate program in American Public Policy, Lulkin became a community convener for Congressman Sidney Yates' task force for the lakefront, President of the Association of Sheridan Condo-Coop Owners in Rogers Park, and Executive Director of the Edgewater Chamber of Commerce. She was active in a number of other community organizations as well: Organization of the NorthEast, Friends of the Park, and Save Our Cemetery Committee, among others.
