Variant namesHide Profile
Louisiana Purchase Exposition Company Records have remained in the custody of the St. Louis Art Museum (formerly St. Louis Museum of Fine Arts) since their creation during the period 1901-1909. Although the World's Fair itself was in operation from April to Dec. 1904, years of preparation by the Art Department preceded the exhibition of American and foreign art works, and many months were required to conclude departmental affairs following the closing. The Art Dept. Chief, Halsey C. Ives, was also Director of the St. Louis Museum of Fine Arts; since the museum was moved from its original location into the World's Fair Art Building in Forest Park in 1906, the records were permanently housed in the building where most were created. When the bulk of the LPE Company's records were transferred to the newly built Jefferson Memorial Building (Missouri Historical Society) in 1913, the records of the Art Dept. remained in storage in the Museum building.

The exhibit shown in the photographs was prepared under the auspices of the Association of American Agricultural Colleges and Experiment Stations. Professor Thomas F. Hunt, then at Cornell University, was a member of the committee and received this volume from the secretary, A. C. True.
