Gertrude Besse King attended Vassar College (AB 1903) and Radcliffe College (AM 1909). In 1906 she married Stanley King (1883-1951) who later became president of Amherst College; they had three biological children and adopted two others. They lived abroad, mostly in Eastern Europe, 1914-1916. Gertrude King did research for President Wilson's Industrial Conference, 1919-1920, and was chair of the Industrial Relations Committee of the League of Women Voters in Boston, 1921-1923. Her essays and book reviews were published in a volume entitled Alliances for the Mind (1924). She died in Boston, Massachusetts.
