Susan Sensemann was born October 6, 1949 in Glen Cove, New York. She graduated from Syracuse University in 1971 with a BFA in Printmaking and went on to earn her MFA in Painting at the Tyler School of Art at Temple University. As an associate professor, Susan Sensemann taught at the University of Illinois-Champaign from 1973 until 1981with a focus on painting and drawing. She began teaching at the University of Illinois-Chicago in 1981. At UIC, she served as the Director of Undergraduate Studies at the School of Art and Design from 2000 until 2005. Previously, Sensemann was the Studio Arts Coordinator at U of I from 1983 until 1984 and the Director of Graduate Studies for the School of Art and Design at UIC from 1989 until 1991. Sensemann was awarded Professor Emerita status at UIC.
