One of the most famous and powerful women of the 20th century, Indira Gandhi was the daughter and political heir of Jawaharlal Nehru, first Prime Minister of India. After a disruptive childhood in India and abroad, she returned to India and became politically active, and was elected Prime Minister in 1966. Her long tenure as India's leader was tumultuous, but she made steps to improve food production and industry.

From the description of Indira Gandhi letters to Rajni Patel, 1939. (Pennsylvania State University Libraries). WorldCat record id: 52281218
