La Salle Military Academy
La Salle Military Academy began in 1871 as the Westchester Institute, a novitiate for the Brothers of the Christian Schools (Christian Brothers). In 1883 it became a boys' school, Sacred Heart Academy. Military programs were added in the 1890s, and the name was changed to Clason Point Military Academy (after its location in the Bronx) in 1906. The school moved to Oakdale, Long Island, in 1926, and adopted the present name in 1928. La Salle currently offers a military program for senior high school boys, a non-military boys' middle school, an International Study Center for foreign students, and a pre-school program.
