Lingenfelter, Richard E
American astrophysicist trained at the University of California, Los Angeles (B.A.). Lingenfelter has held research and instructional positions at the Lawrence Radiation Laboratory (1957-1962), TATA Institute for Fundamental Research (1968-1969), and UCLA's Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics (1969-1979). In 1979, Lingenfelter accepted a position as research physicist, theoretician and senior lecturer in UCSD's Center for Astrophysics and Space Sciences (CASS). Lingenfelter has conducted extensive research in the areas of solar high energy emissions, gamma-ray bursts, and supernovae. He has participated in various collaborative projects including the Solar Maximum Mission, the Gamma-Ray Observatory, the Nuclear Astrophysics Explorer, and the High Energy Astrophysical Observatory 1. During most of his tenure at UCSD, he has served as a contributing member of the CASS High Energy Astronomy Group, a consortium of astrophysicists.
