Frank Stellmacher was a first generation German American, born in Wisconsin. He joined the Oregon Volunteers at the age of 21 and served first in camps in Oregon and California before sailing to the Philippines. Muster rolls show him as "on daily duty as bridge guard, Apr. 21 to May 26 '99...sick in division hospital June 7-9, '99, in line of duty."
