A leading Ky. family. Most of the papers are the correspondence of Judge Thomas Alexander Marshall (1794-1871), U.S. congressman, lawyer, and chief justice of the Kentucky Court of Appeals, son of Senator Humphrey Marshall and nephew of Chief Justice John Marshall.
