The Wisconsin Employment Service was established in 1934 under the jurisdiction of the Industrial Commission (WIHV85-A2180) as part of a federal-state system of public employment offices. Authorized under the Wagner-Peyser Act of 1933, the program was designed to facilitate full employment and to promote employment stability through a system of district offices. In 1967, the Industrial Commission became the Department of Industry, Labor and Human Relations (WIHV85-A998). The Wisconsin Employment Service was merged with the Unemployment Compensation Division (WIHV85-A898) to create the Employment Security Division (WIHV85-A998) of the Department of Industry, Labor, and Human Relations in 1973.
