Henry Eastman Bennett was born in Buffalo, New York in 1873. He received his degrees from Peabody Normal College and the University of Chicago. From 1891 to 1906, Bennett held various teaching and administrative positions in the public schools and colleges in Florida, including being Dean of the Normal Dept. at the University of Florida. From 1907 to 1925, he was a professor of education and philosophy at the College of William and Mary. He co-authored with Caroline Mays Brevard a book on the history and government of Florida, which was published in 1904.
