Currier family.

Hide Profile

The Currier family was well established in Amesbury and Salisbury, Massachusetts by late 18th century. This particular branch of the family has a connection with the poet John Greenleaf Whittier, who was born in nearby Haverhill and lived for many years in Amesbury. Thomas Sargent Currier (ca. 1810-1877) was Whittier's contemporary, but his son Horace H. Currier was the poet's friend in the Currier family. Thomas Florian Currier, Horace's brother, also knew Whittier, and Thomas Florian Currier's son, Thomas Franklin Currier, wrote a bibliography of Whittier's work.
