Sheed and Ward (Firm)
Variant namesFrancis J. Sheed and his wife Maisie Ward founded the London publishing firm of Sheed & Ward in 1926. In 1933 they founded a second publishing house, also called Sheed & Ward, in New York City. Philip Scharper served as editor-in-chief of Sheed & Ward (New York), 1957-1970.
This American corporation operated until 1973, when Universal Press Syndicate bought it and made it the basis of a new firm, Sheed, Andrews & McMeel (later Andrews & McMeel).
