The Arts Club of Washington, D.C. was formed in May 1916 "to create a center for artists and art lovers." At its height the Club hosted weekly dinners with lectures and concerts. They also held dinner dances, art exhibits and an annual costume ball. The headquarters are at 2017 I Street, N.W., a building completed about 1808 and occupied by both President Madison and President Monroe during and after the War of 1812.
