Aweusi, Alli

Alli Aweusi (John O. Greenlow III) was a former member of the Black Panther Party for Self Defense in the 1960s and 1970s. In the mid 1960s, Aweusi began documenting the Panthers and other aspects of the civil rights movement. He moved to Austin in 1981 and became involved in the music, art, and poetry scene. In 1994 he started the Catfish Poets, an Austin poetry group aimed at African-Americans. Aweusi passed away in Austin in 2003, at the age of fifty-six.
