The Irgun (Etsel) was a military organization founded in Palestine in 1931. Its ideology was based on the teachings of Vladimir Jabotinsky, which stated that armed Jewish force was the prerequisite for a Jewish state and that every Jew had a right to enter Palestine. Its symbol was a hand holding a rifle over the map of present day Israel and Jordan with the motto "Raḳ kakh" ("Only thus"). This symbol is on most of the items in this collection. Menachem Begin was the commander of the Irgun from 1944-1948, the period covered in this collection.
