Mary Celestine Mitchell Brown (1866-1925) attended Lake Erie Female Seminary in Painesville, Ohio. She married Edward Thomas Brown (1859-1933) and they lived in Athens, Georgia. E.T. Brown was a lawyer and mayor of Athens from 1890-1891.

"Lake Erie Female Seminary formed in 1856 as a seminary for women in Painesville, Ohio. The institution, now known as Lake Erie College, first offered classes in 1859, with 137 students initially enrolling. During its early years of existence, Lake Erie Female Seminary offered its graduates seminary diplomas, but by 1899, the institution, which had become known as Lake Erie College in 1898, awarded its first college degrees." -- "Lake Erie Female Seminary."
