Chawner, George

George Chawner (1854-1914) was born on 16 November 1854, the son of William, vicar of Crich, Derbyshire. He was educated at Rossall, before entering King's College, Cambridge, in 1873 (B.A., 1877; M.A., 1880), where he became a fellow in 1878. He was classical lecturer at the university, 1879-1896, and King's College Librarian, 1896-1914. He died on 27 April 1914.
