Graves, William, d.1877.

Hide Profile

Captain William Graves lived at 56 High Street, Newburyport, Massachusetts. He was the son of William (ca.1785-ca.1851) and Mary Pike Graves. (Apparently, however, Mary Pike had died earlier and William then married Susannah, who was listed as his widow in the city directories.) Edward Graves (who lived with the widow Susannah) was probably an uncle. Capt. Graves served as an alderman of Newburyport in 1854, 1856-1858, and 1863; he was mayor in 1866. He died in 1877, at which time he was treasurer of the Bartlett Steam Mills. His second wife was another Mary Pike, and he had at least two sons, William and Edmund P., and a daughter Georgiana West (1852-1934, married Charles French Perry).
