Jurist. LL.D., U. of Indiana, 1832. Adm. to Bar 1837. Practiced law in Pittsburg, Pa., 1837-1848; in Alexandria, Va., and Washington, D.C., 1848-1863. Judge, Superior Court of D.C., 1863-1865. Gave only vote for Lincoln in 1860 which was given in Alexandria. Retired 1885.

• 1860: Gave the only vote for Abraham Lincoln in 1860 that was given in Alexandria, VA.
• 1860: Moved to Washington.
• 1863 - 1885 : Justice of the Supreme Court of the District of Columbia. Eventually retired on account of age.
