Publicist, writer, and editor, Doris (Bauman) Gold was born in New York City on November 21, 1919, the daughter of Saul and Gertrude (Reiss) Bauman. She graduated from Brooklyn College (B.A. 1946) and Washington University (M.A. 1955), and was an instructor of English at the University of Kansas (1946-1948) and the State University of New York at Farmingdale (1958-1959). She was an editor for The Young Judaean magazine (1963-1972), a writer for the New York Federation of Jewish Philanthropies (1972-1974), and the founder of Biblio Press in 1979. She also served as executive director of the Pete McGuinness Senior Center in Brooklyn (1974-1977), and was on the public relations staff of the Associated YM-YWHA of New York beginning in 1978. She was the Eastern region coordinator for the National Organization for Women's Task Force on Volunteerism (1973-1976).
Gold is the author of Stories for Jewish Juniors (1967), Honey in the Lion (1979), and From the Wise Women of Israel: Folklore and Memoirs (1993).
