Kosik, Michael J., 1898-1967
Labor leader Michael J. Kosik (1898-1967) was born in Dupont, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. In 1912, he joined the United Mineworkers of America (UMW). He held offices in his local union and was elected vice-president of UMW District 1 in 1925, becoming the District's president in 1946. He also served as chairman of the Anthracite Board of Conciliation in Hazelton, Pennsylvania.
