Lynde family.
Three generations of the Lynde family of Charlestown, Mass., are represented in this collection. Joseph Lynde (1636-1727) married Mary Winthrop ( -1715) and they were the parents of Nicholas Lynde (1665-1703). His son, Joseph Lynde, Jr. (1702-1798) of Charlestown and Worcester, Mass., married Mary Lemmon (1717-1798). They were the parents of seventeen children, among them Anna (1747-1829) and Dorothy (1746-1837). The latter married Dr. Elijah Dix ( -1819) of Worcester. They were the grandparents of Dorothea Lynde Dix (1802-1887), noted humanitarian and reformer.
