Medical Society of New Jersey
Variant namesThe first state medical society in the nation, the Medical Society of New Jersey was established in 1766 to advance the field of medicine, providing a forum for physician members to share improvements in treatment. In 1816, the first district, or county, medical societies were formed and were granted the authority to confer medical licenses. The Society began its affiliation with the American Medical Association in 1847, when it sent representatives to the A.M.A.'s first meeting in Philadelphia.
