Thomas Grimke White (1833-1919) was the son of John Blake White, an attorney, artist, and dramatist of Charleston. He was a physician, and had a practice at Chappells Station in Newberry County in 1871, but he later practiced law, and moved to Beaufort, S.C. in 1874. His son, John Chanler White, an Episcopal minister, served as the bishop of Springfield, Ill., from 1924 to 1947.
