Founded by Mary Phillips of Lemont, Illinois, this project involved growing flowers for their seed production value, and the packaging and exchanging of seeds internationally by children who became pen-pals. The Peace Garden contributed a doll of Jane Addams made from a gourd for the 1960 Chicago World Flower and Garden Show. This gesture of international friendship is now located at the Swarthmore College Peace Collection.
