Evans, Robley D. (Robley Dunglison), 1846-1912
Variant namesAdmiral Robley D. Evans graduated from the U.S. naval Academy in 1864 and served during the Civil War. He was commanding officer of the Iowa in the Spanish American War and was commanding officer of the Great White Fleet, 1907-1908.

Evans graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1863. In 1865 he was wounded during an attack on Fort Fisher, North Carolina and retired due to his injuries. He was reinstated in 1891 and assumed command responsibilities during the 1891 revolution in Chile and the Spanish American War. In 1907 he served as the commander of Theodore Roosevelt's Great White Fleet.
