Trinity Lutheran Church (Lewiston, Idaho)

Although the organization of Trinity Lutheran Church was not completed until May of 1920, the history of Lutheran church work in Lewiston goes back as far as 1907. From that time occasional services were held by visiting pastors. Through the efforts of Rev. A. Wolff of Genesee, Idaho, the Spokane Conference was persuaded to ask the Mission Board of what is now known as the American Lutheran Church to call a resident pastor to Lewiston for the beginning of a mission church. This was accepted, and the first service was held on February 7, 1920 with twenty – three persons present.

Negotiations began in November of 1925 to merge the two existing Lutheran congregations in Lewiston. The merger occurred in 1926 with Zion Lutheran disbanding and members transferring to Trinity, and the former Zion church was purchased. The present sanctuary and the east wing were built and dedicated on June 20, 1948. In 1956 the west wing was added to the church, containing twelve classrooms, three assembly rooms and two offices.
