Edmunds, Pocahontas Wight, 1904-1999
Pocahontas Wight Edmunds (1904-199) was an American author and authority on Pocahontas.
Pocahontas Wight Edmunds was born in Richmond, Virginia in 1904, the daughter of Pocahontas Wilson and Richard Cunningham Wight. She spent much of her childhood and later life in Halifax, N.C. She was a graduate of St. Catherine's School and Agnes Scott College, and she also spent time studying in Paris.
As an ancestor of Pocahontas, she became an authority on the historical figure and wrote a book, gave presentations, and was included in documentaries on Pocahontas' life. Edmunds also wrote books on Rutherford B. hayes, E.H. Harriman, legends told along the North Carolina and Virgina coasts, and Virigina and Halifax, N.C. history.
Edmunds was active throughout her life in Halifax County civic life. She helped establish the Halifax County Homes Tour, founded the Halifax County Garden Club and the South Boston Woman's Club, and was president of the Halifax Woman's Club. Edmunds as also a member of The Writers Club and the National Society of the Colonial Dames of Virginia.
Edmunds was married to Richard C. Edmunds.
