Founded in 1938 as the Jewish Community Council of Washington, this is the central community relations agency of the organized Jewish community of the Washington area, with over 200 constituent groups. It promotes cultural, social, economic, and philanthropic interests and advances the national and spiritual aspirations of the Jewish people. Isaac Franck was executive director, 1948-1973. Presidents included: Solomon Metz, Hymen Goldman, Isadore Breslau, Aaron Goldman, Albert Arent, Joel Wolfson, Richard Lyon, Louis Grossberg, and Seymour Wolf.
