Planter of Fairfield County, S.C.; son of David and Nancy Kerr Aiken, both Irish Immigrants; brother of William Aiken (1806-1887), who served as S.C. governor, 1844-1846; president of South Carolina Railroad Company; and for whom city of Aiken, S.C. was named.
