Born 1773, Lanarkshire, Scotland. Died 1846, Philadelphia. Came to the U.S. in 1794 and went to work for Thackara & Valance of Philadelphia engraving plates for Dobson's ENCYCLOPAEDIA. He also did engravings for the supplemental (1803) volumes of the ENCYCLPOAEDIA, Wilson's AMERICAN ORNITHOLOGY, (1808-1814), and Charles Lucien Bonaparte's AMERICAN ORNITHOLOGY; OR THE NATURAL HISTORY OF BIRDS INHABITING THE UNITED STATES NOT GIVEN BY WILSON, (1825-1833).
