Biographical Note: E. Emmet Reid was born in Fincastle, VA in 1872.

He was graduated from Richmond College in 1892. Reid was a student of Ira Remsen at The Johns Hopkins University and received his Ph. D. in chemistry, 1898. Reid taught chemistry at Johns Hopkins 1908 until 1937 when he retired as professor emeritus. His university teaching was interrupted when he was recruited to do government research in chemical warfare during World War I. Dr. Reid published "Organic Chemistry of Bivalent Sulfur" and "Chemistry Through the Language Barrier." E. Emmet Reid died in 1973.
