The Australian Council of Trade Unions arose from an All-Australian Trade Union Congress held in Melbourne in May 1927 whose purpose was to consider a more complete form of organization of the Trade Union movement in Australia. In 1947 the constitution was rewritten changing the name to The Australian Council of Trade Unions.
